Simulating an ASM instance creation on Windows

Posted by decipherinfosys on March 26, 2009

ASM uses disk groups to store data files and the disk group comprises of multiple disks.  ASM manages this as a single unit.  It is not always feasible to spare resources for development environment to test out ASM creation. Recently we came across a very good article, which describes a nice alternative to create ASM on Windows.  It demonstrates how can we mimic ASM just with a single disk (c: or d: drive).

We used steps mentioned in the document to create default asm (+ASM) instance and we were able to recreate it successfully. Please follow the steps mentioned in the document:

But this is only for windows.
